She was born March 23, 1884 in North Head Grand Manan, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick2, and died May 14, 1945 in North Head Grand Manan, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick3. Notes for LOWELL MABREY BROWN:

Lowell Brown was my great Grandfather. He was born on Campobello Island, New Brunswick to Clara SEARLES and William O. BROWN. Lowell was living on Grand Manan Island in 1891at the age of 8 with the JOHNSON family. His mother and two other siblings were still living at Campobello. I believe his father had died by 1891 but have yet to find a death date.

Lowell remained with the JOHNSON family until he was of age and would soon marry Jessie BEAL, also of Grand Manan. They would remain there the rest of there lives and have a large number of descendants.

The following is Lowell's obituary which would have been published in the Telegraph Journal, Quoddy Tides or the Saint Croix Courier. (I believe it was the Courier).

LOWELL BROWN DIES IN HOSPITAL

The death of Lowell Brown occurred at the Grand Manan Hospital on April 15 following a period of failing health. He was 80 years old. He was the son of the late William and Clara Brown of Wilson's Beach.

He is survived by three sons, - Floyd, Everett and Herman all of North Head, and four daughters, - Mrs. Earl Worthen (Clara), North Head; Mrs. Robert Harvey (Ellen), Grand Harbour; Mrs. Winthrop Moses (Doris), North Head; Mrs. Eric Lucas (Faye), North Head; 26 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

The funeral service was held from the Reformed Baptist Church at North Head on Tuesday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. R. Madden, pastor of the church. A duet was sung by Mrs. Otis Zwickwer and Bruce Stanley, with Mrs. Bruce Stanley as accompanist.

The bearers were all grandsons: Sidney Worthen, Ronald Brown, Robert Brown, and Valerie Brown.

There were numerous floral tributes which included pieces from Gundry Pymore Ltd, Hillside Garage, Pythian Sisters Reformed Baptist Church and Mananook Lodge F and AM. Internment was in the North Head Cemetery.

Everett "Midge" and Claytie had no children and were later divorced.

Everett Brown

Everett (Midge) Brown, 73, died at the Grand Manan Hospital July 20, 1983.

He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 44, Grand Manan and her served two years overseas as well as in Canada.

Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Earl (Clara) Worthen, Mrs. Robert (Ellen) Harvey, Mrs. Winthrop (Doris) Moses and Mrs. Eric (Faye) Lucas; two brothers, Floyd and Herman; one aunt, Mrs. Lyle Richardson; a number of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at the Wesleyan Church, North Head with Rev. Stephen Bradley officiating, assisted by Rev. Dean Brown and Rev. John Hammond. Internment was at North Head in the family plot.

Legion members attended in a body forming an honor guard and took part in the service at the graveside.

Clara May Worthen

North Head Grand Manan

The funeral service for Clara May Worthen, 82, widow of Earl Worthen, was held at the Church of the Ascension with the Rev. Joseph Atkinson officiating.

Pallbearers were five grandsons Larry, Kevin, Douglas, Norris and Karl Worthen and nephew Dr. Van Worthen.

Born at North Head, Grand Manan, September 6, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Lowell and Jessie (Beal) Brown.

She was an active member of the Church of the Ascension, North Head where she had served on the Alter Guild and was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and the Rebecca Lodge.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Leighton of Moncton; three sisters, Ellen Harvey, Doris Moses, Faye Lucas; one brother, Herman Brown; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Gerald and Sidney, and three brothers, Floyd, Everett and Lowell Jr.

The following is an obituary that may have been in the Saint John Telegraph Journal or the Saint Croix Courier in Auugst of 1979.

The death of Earl Stanley Worthen of North Head, Grand Manan, occurred on August 4, 1979, at Grand Manan Hospital, following a heart seizure.

Born July 20, 1904 at Ecum Secum, NS, a son of the late William Sidney and Addie Loretta (Stanley) Worthen, he lived most of his life on Grand Manan where he had been engaged in the fishing business for many years. He was a member of the Anglican Church where he served as warden for 13 years at the Church of the Ascension. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Orange Lodge Associations.

Surviving are his wife, Clara (Brown), a daughter, Marjorie Leighton of Moncton, two brothers, Lloyd and Douglas, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Two sons, Gerald and Sidney predeceased him.

Funeral services were held at the Church of the Ascension, North Head on Monday, August 6, conducted by Rev. Milton F. Dorman of Church of the Good Shepherd, Saint John. Mrs Clifford Stanley acted as organist. Pallbearers were craig Cheney, Ferd Foote, Herb MacCauley, and Harry Stanley. Internment was in North Head Cemetery.

Many floral tributes were received and contributions were made to the Heart Fund, Church Restoration Fund, Ocean View Lodge, Gideon Bibles and other funds in his name.

The family of the late Earl Worthen wish to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to their relatives, friends, and neighbours for their many acts of kindness, expressions of sympathy, flowers, memorials, cooking, cards, visits and phone calls during their recent bereavement. Loses Boat: According to a report from Grand Manan the lobster boat owned by Earl Worthen went ashore during the big blow last week and became almost a complete wreck, the loss having been placed at around $2,000.

The young people are all well known and popular in the community and are receiving the congradulations of their many friends for a happy and prosperous wedded life. They will reside at North Head."

Gerald was never married, nor did he have any children.

The following obituary was published in a local paper at the time of Gerald's death.

The funeral of Gerald Clifton Worthen was held at the Church of the Ascension here with Rev. Milton Dorman officiating.

The pallbearers were Douglas Worthen, Donald Hatt, Herbert MacAuley and Harry Stanley.

Mr. Worthen's death occurred at our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Toronto after a lengthy illness. He was 46.

He was born in North Head, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Worthen.

Mr. Worthen was a member of the Oddfellows and Masonic Lodges. He is survived by his parents;....

ARTIST PASSES:

With the passing of Lowell Brown Jr., on Thursday of last week Grand Manan lost one of it's most promising painters. Interested in this work from his younger days Lowell studied under the late Wesley Griffin, well known artist, and later attended art school in the United States. His work showed great promise. He had shown pictures in the Toronto Art Exhibit and had planned showing at the Beaverbrook exhibition in Fredericton this fall. In poor health for the last few years, his condition did not permit him to paint to the extent he would have liked. A vetran of World War 2 with overseas service he took advantage on his off hours to visit the well known art galleries while in Europe and study the style of famous painters. Employed as assistant Postmaster at the North head Post Office, he was a member of Grand Manan Branch No. 44 Canadian Legion and Oddfellows Lodge. He will be missed not only by the Island people but by scores of tourists who came to know him through his painting and friendly manner.

MOSES, DORIS MARGARET - Doris Margaret Moses, 83, of North Head, Grand

Manan, N.B., passed away unexpectantly at the Grand Manan Hospital, Wednesday morning, November 12th, 1997. Mrs. Moses was the daughter of the late Mr. Lowell and Jessie (Beal) Brown of North Head, N.B. Mrs. Moses faithfully attended the North Head Wesleyan Church, and was especially interested and active in both the Seniors Adult Sunday School Class and the Wesleyan Ladies Auxillary Missionary Group as well as the Senior Ladies Fun and Games

Group. Over the past ten years Mrs. Moses has enjoyed her trailering friends andaquaintances at Island View Campground, Bayside, N.B.

Mrs. Moses is survived by herhusband Mr. Winthrop Thurston Moses at home, one daughter Donna Nixon and her husband Vernon, of Hampton, N.B. Two sisters; Mrs. Ellen Harvey of Grand Harbour, Mrs. Fay Lucas of North Head, N.B. One brother, Herman Brown of North Head, N.B. Also two grandsons; Norman Nixon and his wife Leah of St. Stephen, N.B., and Peter Nixon and his wife Krista of Hatfields Point, N.B., also four great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Moses was predeceased by one sister Clara Worthen, as well as by three brothers; Floyd, Everett, and Lowell Jr. Brown. The family will be receiving friends at Ells Funeral Home,Grand Harbour, Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. and

on Friday Mrs. Moses will be transferred to the North Head Wesleyan Church, NorthHead, with visiting 11-12 noon. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 14th, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Campbell officiating. Interment to follow in the family plot North Head Cemetery, North Head, N.B. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all donations be made to the North Head

The following was published in the Novemer 21, 1997 St. John Telegraph Journal:

On November 14,1997 tribute was paid to the life of Doris Moses at the North Head, Grand Manan, Wesleyan Church. The service began with a moment of silent meditation during the organ prelude, " The Lord Is My Shepherd", played by Rhonda Stanley. Grandson, Peter Nixon, read the poem, " A Beautiful Smile", which had been found in Doris's Bible.

A very appropriate eulogy was given by Donna's co-worker and close friend, Leta Underhill. She also read comforting scriptural passages selected by Alice Harvey, Doris's niece, living in Ontario. Leta closed by leading the congregation in the recitation of Psalm 23.

Prayer and devotion were given by Reverend Gary Campbell. This was followed by Sheila Wilson, a niece, singing one of her aunt's favourite songs, " This Is What Heaven Means To Me".

Andrea Morse, also a niece, rendered closing prayer and farewell to her aunt.

Bearers were: grandson, Norman Nixon; nephews, Arthur, Blair, Dana and Dwain Brown; and close friend, Lester Neves.

Following the grave side committal friends and family gathered at the Moses' residence sharing conversation and refreshments.

FUNERAL SERVICE FOR ISLAND MAN

Funeral services were held for Sidney Worthen in the Church of the Ascension with services conducted by Rev. Hugh Thompson.

Born in North Head in 1931. Mr Worthen died at his home July 16, 1967, at the age of 36 of a heart attack. He was a diesel operator of the NBEP Commission for 15 years, he was a member of the Local Union1711 IBEW and a member of the IOOF Lodge, North Head.

Besides his wife, the former Helen Brown of Grand Harbour, he is survived by three daughters, Linda 15, Charlene 9, Karen 5, five sons, Larry 17, Kevin 12, Douglas 11, Norris 10, Karl 4; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Worthen; one sister, Mrs Clyde Leighton (Marjorie), one brother, Gerald of Toronto, grandmother Mrs. Addie Worthen, several aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Russell, Eugene Somers, Frank Daggett and Melvin Tucker of the NBEPC, ? Gibson, thermal operation engineer of the NBEPC of Fredericton attended funeral services.

Many floral tributes were received as well as a number of donations to the Canadian Heart Fund made in his honor.

Notes for MATTHEW EARL WADDINGHAM:

Matthew was born 4 days after being diagnosed as "anencephalic" which means he did not have a brain and there would be no chance of survival had his parents chosen to carry the pregnancy to full term.

At the time of his death Matthew was 20 weeks gestation. He was 7 inches in length and weighed a mere 5 ounces. He was perfectly formed except for his head. He had long legs like his father and he was very much our wanted son.

On August 7, 1995 he was buried at the North Head Cemetary, in Grand Manan NB, along side his great grandparents Earl and Clara Worthen. It was a very simple service, his mother read a poem and his father and sister, Kate released a light blue helium balloon with clouds on it. Also in attendance were his grandparents Marjorie and David Lutes.

"He will never be forgotten".
